Popular in the US and Canada are the comfort foods, tuna casserole, green bean casserole and macaroni and cheese. Casseroles are commonly brought to family gatherings and potluck dinners. The word casserole comes from the French word for casserole which is a large, normally deep dish that can be placed in the oven and used for serving. In Britain casseroles are commonly called “abake”. Here are loads of casserole or “hotdish” recipes that venture far beyond tuna or green bean casserole.

Chicken and Dumpling Casserole recipe
I loved this recipe. I made this for my mom after her surgery and she loved it. I only used 1 box of spinach instead of 2 and I used real bacon and not bacon bits, other than that it was great!

"Lobster Newberg. Also "lobster a la Newburg"...The dish was made famous at Delmonico's Restaurant in New York in 1876 when the recipe was brought to chef Charles Ranhofer by a West Indies sea captain named Ben Wenberg. It was an immediate hit, especially for after-theater suppers, and owner Charles Delmonico honored the capatain by naming the dish "lobster a la Wenberg." But later Wenberg and Delmonico had a falling-out, and the restauranteur took the dish off the menu, restoring it only by popular demand by renaming it "lobster a la Newberg," reversing the first three letters of the captain's name.
Ostrich, firstly, is actually a very tasty meat. It tastes somewhat like chicken...lol! Ok, it doesn't taste like chicken, but I couldn't resist the temptation. It is a very lean meat, possibly more lean than beef (therefore a fairly good alternative for those on some form of low cholesterol diet). And lastly, and most importantly, this cut of meat is an inexpensive alternative to the more luxurious ox tail that we seem to reserve for graduations and wedding rehearsals.
After trying numerous green bean casseroles I was not a fan. This casserole changed my mind. Tender-crisp green beans that were actually green. Just the right amount of creamy coating loaded with mushroom flavor. And no canned tasteless fried onions. Delish!
Crab Broccoli Casserole recipe
An easy yet delicious recipe. I followed the recipe, and used whatever I had on hand. Then just mixed them up, and baked in the oven until the cheese was nicely browned. I let the casserole rest for about 10 minutes, then served it. Overall a great dish.
