Wowie Cake
Submitted by rkirby
Ultra-moist tube cake made with cake mix, sour cream, and pudding, layered with chocolate chips and crunchy walnuts. The kind of easy, show-stopping dessert that earns its name.

1 hrsThis is the cake that makes people say “wow” and then immediately ask for the recipe.
It starts with a yellow cake mix, but sour cream and pudding transform the batter into something ridiculously moist and tender.
Beat it for a full 8 to 10 minutes and you’ll get a crumb so fine it practically melts.
Chocolate chips and broken walnuts get layered through the middle and scattered on top, so every slice has pockets of melty chocolate and nutty crunch.
Kitchen Tips
- Beating the batter for the full 8 to 10 minutes is key. It develops structure and gives you that bakery-level fine crumb
- Use instant pudding mix (vanilla or chocolate both work) straight from the packet, no need to prepare it first
- Let the cake cool a full 10 minutes before flipping or the center may collapse
- Mini chocolate chips distribute more evenly through the batter if you prefer chocolate in every single bite
Ingredients
Directions
Mix together the cake mix, pudding, sour cream, eggs and oil.
Using an electric mixer beat the batter for 8 to 10 minutes.
Grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan.
Pour ¼ of the batter into pan and sprinkle ½ the chocolate chip and walnuts over it.
Pour in remaining batter and top with remaining chips and nuts.
Bake at 350℉ (180℃) for 50 to 60 minutes.
Cool for about 10 minutes and then turn out onto a serving plate and cool completely.
