Twinkies floating in orange Jell-O made with vanilla ice cream, pineapple juice, and 7-Up. A retro no-bake dessert that’s equal parts ridiculous and irresistible.

Look, nobody said every recipe had to be fancy. Sometimes you just need eight Twinkies bobbing in a pan of creamsicle-flavored Jell-O and that’s called living your best life.

Orange gelatin gets blended with softened vanilla ice cream, pineapple juice, and 7-Up to create a fizzy, creamy base.

Pour it into a pan, let it half-set, then push those golden sponge cakes in so they sit “semi-descended in the ooze” (the recipe’s words, not ours).

Chill until firm and serve to people who appreciate a good time.

Pro Tips

  • Let the gelatin set just enough to resist the Twinkies before placing them; too liquid and they’ll sink to the bottom
  • Blend the ice cream into the hot gelatin mixture thoroughly so there are no lumps
  • Use cold 7-Up for extra fizz in the final texture
  • This is a potluck legend; bring it and watch people argue about whether it’s genius or madness

Directions

Dissolve Jell-O in boiling water.

Add pineapple juice, ice cream and 7-Up.

Mix thoroughly (In a blender if necessary to dissolve ice cream), and pour into a deep pan, approximately 9-inches square.

Chill until mixture begins to set.

Lay Twinkies, flat side down, in two rows of four across the top of the chilled gelatin.

If the gelatin is properly chilled, it will resist the Twinkies.

You will push them in and they will slowly rise.

Remember you don’t want them buried.

Just semi-decended in the ooze.

Chill until fully set and serve.
