Loaded ground round patties packed with cheddar cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, and green peppers. A retro stuffed burger recipe that puts all the toppings inside the meat.

Forget piling toppings on your burger. These retro patties mix everything right into the meat.

Ground round gets loaded up with cubed cheddar, chopped tomatoes, green peppers, mushrooms, scallions, and a hit of garlic.

Wheat germ acts as the binder, and a few hours in the fridge firms them up so they hold together on the grill or in the skillet.

Ten minutes per side and you’ve got a juicy, veggie-stuffed patty with pockets of melted cheese in every bite.

Pro Tips

  • Chill time matters. Don’t skip the 2 to 3 hours in the fridge. Cold patties hold their shape and won’t crumble when you flip them.
  • Press the patties firmly before cooking. The vegetables release moisture, so a tight press keeps everything bound together.
  • Cube the cheese small so it distributes evenly and melts into gooey pockets throughout the patty.
