Spicy Hot Dog Mustard
Submitted by jillbright
Spicy hot dog mustard made with Dijon, yellow mustard, and honey. Three ingredients, no cooking, and sharper than anything from a squeeze bottle.

10 minEqual parts Dijon mustard, yellow prepared mustard, and honey stirred together. That’s it. The Dijon brings the sharp, nose-clearing heat while the yellow mustard gives it that classic ballpark tang. Honey rounds everything out with enough sweetness to keep the spice from overwhelming.
This blows any store-bought honey mustard out of the water because the ratio is heavier on mustard than sugar. Commercial versions are mostly corn syrup with a hint of mustard flavor. Here, the mustard is the star and the honey plays backup.
Stir it together, jar it up, and stash it in the fridge. It’s ready immediately but tastes even better after a few hours as the flavors blend. Works on way more than hot dogs: try it on pretzels, in a ham sandwich, or as a dipping sauce for chicken tenders.
Kitchen Tips
- Use a real Dijon, not “Dijon-style." The real thing has more bite from brown mustard seeds and white wine.
- Stir thoroughly until completely smooth. Honey tends to sit in clumps if you don’t mix it aggressively.
- Keeps in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to a month.
