Plain rice walks in. Honey-butter-cinnamon rice with roasted peanuts walks out.

This is the side dish that steals the show without breaking a sweat. Melted butter and honey warm together on the stovetop, get spiced with cinnamon and ginger, then pour over hot rice studded with chopped roasted peanuts.

The honey glazes every grain, the butter makes it rich, the spices make it fragrant, and the peanuts give you that salty crunch.

Finish with a scatter of fresh parsley for color, and you’ve turned the simplest pantry staple into a conversation piece.

Kitchen Tips

  • Use hot, freshly cooked rice. Cold rice clumps and won’t absorb the honey-butter mixture evenly.
  • Melt the butter and honey over low heat just until combined. Don’t let it simmer or the honey can scorch and turn bitter.
  • Roasted peanuts are key for flavor and crunch. Raw peanuts taste flat and starchy in comparison.
  • This pairs beautifully with grilled chicken, baked ham, or anything with a savory, smoky profile. The sweetness of the rice plays off salty, charred flavors.
