Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

3/4 cup butter or margarine,, softened
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar firmly packed
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups flour, all-purpose
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
12 ounces chocolate (semi-sweet) semi-sweet morsels
Double chip cookies
1 cup peanut butter or butterscotch morsels
6 ounces chocolate (semi-sweet) semi-sweet morsels

Directions

Cream butter and shortening; gradually add sugars, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.

Add eggs and vanilla, beating well.

Combine flour, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture, mixing well.

Stir in chocolate morsels.

Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 375 degrees for 9 to 11 minutes.

Cool slightly on cookie sheets; remove to wire racks to cool.

DOUBLE CHIP COOKIES: Prepare Best-Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies, using peanut butter morsels or butterscotch morsels and semisweet chocolate morsels instead of 1 (12-ounce)
