Baked in a rounded casserole dish, a golden pound cake becomes the “bun” of a giant hamburger. Toasted sesame seeds go on top for that classic burger-bun look, penuche frosting gives you a rich caramel-brown layer, cocoa powder stands in for the “meat," and a slick of strawberry preserves plays ketchup.
It’s pure fun, built for birthdays, cookout parties, or anytime you want to see jaws drop before the first slice.
Chef Tips
- Bake low and slow so the cake rises evenly in the deep casserole dish without cracking
- Toast sesame seeds on a separate sheet and watch them closely; they go from golden to burnt fast
- Let the penuche frosting cool in ice water and beat it until thick enough to hold its shape before spreading
- Add green-tinted coconut for “lettuce” and a slice of yellow fondant for “cheese” if you want the full burger effect
