Pomander pebbles are a dead-simple way to make your own scented sachets without any sewing or dried flowers. All you need is clay-based cat litter (the plain, unscented kind) and your favorite essential oil. The clay absorbs the oil and slowly releases the fragrance over weeks.

Just mix the two together in a glass jar, seal it, and shake occasionally until all the oil soaks in. Once the clay has absorbed everything, you can pour the scented pebbles into small cloth bags, bowls, or open containers and tuck them into drawers, closets, or linen shelves.

Tips

  • Use only all-clay, unscented litter. Clumping or scented varieties contain chemicals that interfere with the essential oils.
  • Start with half a teaspoon of oil and adjust. Lavender, cedarwood, and citrus blends work especially well.
  • Refresh the pebbles every few weeks with a few more drops of oil when the scent fades.
