20 minThree ingredients. Twenty minutes. That’s all it takes to get a platter of golden, cheese-stuffed pigs in a blanket on the table.
Splitting the hot dogs lengthwise creates a pocket for strips of American cheese that melts into every bite as the crescent roll dough puffs up around them. Roll from the wide end of the dough triangle so the seam stays tucked underneath, and you’ll get an even bake with no cheese escaping.
Pull them when the dough turns deep golden and the edges go slightly crispy. That’s when the ratio of flaky pastry to melty cheese hits just right.
Kitchen Tips
- Let the crescent dough warm up for a couple minutes at room temperature before unrolling. Cold dough tears.
- Space them about an inch apart on the sheet pan so air circulates and the bottoms crisp instead of steam.
- These reheat well in an air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3-4 minutes. The microwave makes them soggy.
Variations
- Swap American cheese for sharp cheddar or pepper jack for more bite.
- Use cocktail smokies instead of full-size hot dogs for a true party-size snack.
- Brush the tops with an egg wash and sprinkle everything bagel seasoning before baking.
