10 minFresh-squeezed orange juice meets fresh lime juice, sweetened with pure maple syrup instead of white sugar. Shake it all together in a big jar with water and pour over ice. That’s the whole recipe, and it tastes like sunshine.
Maple syrup is the smart choice here. It dissolves instantly in cold liquid without needing heat, unlike granulated sugar that sinks to the bottom and sits there undissolved. Plus it adds a warm, caramel-like depth that plain sugar can’t match.
The ratio tips toward orange juice (1 ½ cups) with just ¼ cup of lime, so the drink is mostly sweet citrus with a tart lime edge that keeps it from tasting flat. If you like it more sour, squeeze in extra lime.
Shaking in a jar is faster and more effective than stirring. Everything emulsifies in seconds.
Kitchen Tips
- Fresh-squeezed juice is a must here. Bottled juice lacks the bright, zingy flavor that makes this work
- Strain the juice through a fine-mesh sieve if you prefer a pulp-free drink
- Make a double batch and keep it in a pitcher in the fridge for up to 2 days
- Taste before serving and adjust the maple syrup. Different oranges have different sweetness levels
Variations
- Add a splash of sparkling water for a fizzy version
- Freeze the mixture in popsicle molds for orange-lime ice pops
- Muddle fresh mint or basil into each glass for an herbal twist
