These homemade orange popsicles are the kind of frozen treat you can feel good about handing over to the kids. Real orange juice and fresh pureed fruit do most of the work, with a little jelly powder to give them that smooth, scoopable texture instead of icy crunch.

The jelly powder is the trick here. Dissolved in boiling water with sugar, it acts as a stabilizer that keeps the pops creamy as they freeze rather than forming those grainy ice crystals you get with juice alone. The result is closer to a creamsicle texture without any cream.

Pick a fruit puree that plays well with orange. Mango, peach, and strawberry all work beautifully and add natural sweetness so you don’t need a ton of added sugar. Just blitz ripe fruit in a blender until smooth, stir everything together, and pour into molds.

Pro Tips

  • Let the jelly mixture cool slightly before adding the orange juice. Hot liquid can cook out the fresh flavor.
  • Tap the filled molds on the counter a few times to release air bubbles before freezing. You’ll get smoother pops.
  • Freeze for at least 4 hours, ideally overnight, for the firmest hold.
  • To unmold easily, run warm water over the outside of the mold for 5 seconds.

Variations

  • Use grape jelly powder and grape juice for a purple pop version kids go wild for.
  • Stir in small chunks of fresh strawberries before freezing for visible fruit pieces.
  • Replace sugar with honey for a slightly floral sweetness (not suitable for children under 1).
