Fruity Chews
Fruity chews are homemade fruit gummies made with just 2 ingredients: fruit juice and unflavored gelatin. A healthy, low-fat, sugar-free alternative to store-bought gummy snacks.

130 minTwo ingredients. That’s all it takes to make homemade fruit gummies that put store-bought snacks to shame. Unflavored gelatin dissolved in real fruit juice sets firm enough to cut into squares and eat with your hands. No added sugar, no artificial colors, no corn syrup.
Five envelopes of gelatin to three cups of juice is a much higher ratio than regular Jello. That’s intentional. The extra gelatin creates a firm, chewy texture that holds its shape and snaps when you bite through it, just like a real gummy.
Use any juice you like. Apple juice gives a mild, sweet base. Grape, cherry, or tropical blends make bolder, more colorful chews.
Kitchen Tips
- Soften the gelatin in cold juice first before adding the hot juice. Dumping gelatin into hot liquid creates lumps that won’t dissolve.
- Stir until every granule is completely dissolved. Even tiny undissolved bits create a gritty texture.
- Pour into an 8-inch square pan and refrigerate until firm. This takes about 2 hours.
- Cut into small squares or use cookie cutters for fun shapes.
Variations
- Use 100% grape juice for deep purple gummies, or mango juice for tropical orange ones.
- Pour into silicone candy molds instead of a pan for individual gummy shapes.
- Mix two different juice flavors in layers for a striped, multi-flavor effect.
