10 minThis frozen fruit swirl is the ultimate two-ingredient dessert: frozen bananas pureed into a creamy soft serve, swirled with a vibrant berry puree. No dairy, no added sugar, no ice cream maker needed.
The magic is in the frozen banana. When ripe banana slices get pulsed in a food processor, they transform from icy chunks to a smooth, creamy puree with the texture of soft serve ice cream. The natural sugars and pectin in ripe bananas create that creamy consistency without any cream or milk.
Puree the bananas first, stash them briefly in the freezer, then blend the slightly thawed mixed berries separately. Swirl the berry puree into the banana base for a two-tone effect that looks as good as it tastes.
Serve immediately. This is best eaten as a soft serve right after swirling, before it freezes solid.
Kitchen Tips
- Freeze banana slices on a parchment-lined tray first so they don’t clump into a block
- Use very ripe bananas (brown spots) for the sweetest, creamiest result
- Don’t over-swirl the berry puree, visible ribbons of color look better than a uniform mix
Variations
- Use frozen mango or pineapple chunks instead of berries for a tropical swirl
- Add a tablespoon of cocoa powder to the banana puree for a chocolate-berry version
- Top with granola, chopped nuts, or coconut flakes for crunch
