20 minThe fastest way to get warm, sizzling ham slices on the table. Lay them in a single layer on a heat-safe platter, cover with a paper towel, and microwave until the edges start to bubble and crisp.
The paper towel does two things. It prevents splatter inside the microwave and traps just enough steam to keep the ham from drying out while the edges get hot enough to sizzle.
Single layer is key. Stacked or overlapping slices heat unevenly, leaving cold spots in the middle and overcooked edges on the outside pieces.
Kitchen Tips
- Use a non-metallic platter. Ceramic or glass works perfectly. Metal will arc in the microwave.
- Check at 3 minutes. Microwave power varies, and thin slices can go from warm to rubbery fast.
- Let the ham rest for 30 seconds after heating. Residual heat finishes the job and the slices are too hot to eat immediately anyway.
- Works great for quick ham sandwiches, breakfast plates alongside eggs, or diced into omelets and scrambles.
