8 Great Tips for Clean Eating

Eating clean is more than a fad, it is good for you. Not only will you feel better, you will probably lose more weight than on a regular calorie-cutting diet. Take a look at these tips and try to incorporate them into your diet, and see the wonderful results! You will feel great and have more energy in the process.

Eliminate Processed Foods:  One of the most important things that you can do to clean up your diet is to eliminate all processed foods right away. When you replace processed foods with real varieties, you add flavour and nutrients. Sure, it is not going to kill you to indulge occasionally, but when you avoid processed foods you will find that you enjoy them less if you do splurge. You will also lose weight when you opt for cleaner foods.

Add Fruits and Veggies:  When you reach for a snack, choose fruits and vegetables. You will be adding fibre, vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants. You will feel fuller longer, and your taste buds will thank you!

Eliminate Added Sugars:  Ridding your diet of sugar is another important step when you are trying to eat clean. Make sure that any sugars that you do eat come from fruits and vegetables, and not added in by way of white sugar, high fructose corn syrup or other unhealthy sources.

Watch for Salt:  Many people are accustomed to tossing salt on everything they eat. When you begin to cut back on salt, you will find that you can enjoy the natural, healthy flavours that come with the foods you are eating. Watch for added salt in foods, including breads, cheese, cereals, and processed foods. Eating less salt can also help to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other illnesses.

Reduce Caffeine:  Even though coffee is okay in small amounts for many clean eating plans, limiting the amount of caffeine that you consume is a good idea. If you want more than one cup of coffee for an energy boost, try switching to green tea.

Cut Back on Alcohol:  Because alcohol is basically filled with empty calories and unnecessary sugars, removing it from your diet can only help you reach your goals. While the occasional drink won’t derail your plans, regular alcohol intake will affect your body adversely, so minimizing is wise.

Choose Whole Grains Whenever Possible:  Refined grains are everywhere. You have to really read labels if you want to get the most out of your whole grain search. If you are trying to eat a cleaner diet, then you want to understand the major differences between refined grains and those which are natural and unprocessed. Refined grains lead to bloating, weight gain, and overall health problems over the long term.

Read All Labels Carefully:  If your goal is clean eating, then you have to become very accustomed to reading food labels carefully, and understanding what you are reading. Low calories are important, but, even more importantly, the ingredients are what you should be looking at. If higher calorie ingredients are being substituted with chemicals, then you want to avoid those foods. Make sure you can pronounce everything on that ingredient list before you put it in your mouth!

Clean eating is not impossible! It is, in fact, quite easy once you learn what to look for and establish healthy habits. Use these tips to get a great start!
