35 minThese are the nuts that disappear from the holiday table before anything else gets touched. Walnut or pecan halves dipped in egg whites and orange juice, then rolled through a fragrant coating of powdered sugar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and freshly grated orange zest.
Baked low and slow until the coating dries into a crisp, sweet shell, they’re warm-spiced, citrusy, and completely impossible to stop eating.
Package them in a mason jar with a ribbon and you’ve got a homemade holiday gift that people will actually be thrilled to receive.
Kitchen Tips
- Space the nuts apart on the baking sheet. If they touch, they’ll stick together and the coating won’t dry evenly.
- Drain the nuts well after dipping in the egg white mixture. Too much liquid makes the sugar coating gummy instead of crisp.
- Let them cool completely before storing. Warm nuts in a sealed container create condensation and go soft.
- These keep well in an airtight container for up to two weeks, making them ideal for holiday prep ahead of time.
