This iconic side dish brings creamy, crunchy satisfaction to every fork. Fresh or frozen green beans get coated in rich mushroom sauce, then topped with those addictive fried onions that crisp up in the oven. It’s the casserole everyone expects at Thanksgiving, and for good reason.

Kitchen Tips

  • Drain canned green beans thoroughly to prevent a watery casserole
  • Add the fried onions during the last 10 minutes to keep them extra crispy
  • Mix in sliced water chestnuts for unexpected crunch throughout
