Refreshing Middle Eastern cucumber yogurt salad with garlic and mint. This creamy, cooling side dish pairs beautifully with spicy grilled meats, rice dishes, or warm flatbread.

Think of this as the Middle Eastern cousin to Greek tzatziki, but with its own personality thanks to dried mint and a little more garlic.

Crisp cucumber gets finely diced and mixed into thick yogurt along with garlic and mint, then the whole thing sits and chills while the flavors get to know each other. The cucumbers stay crunchy, the garlic mellows, and the mint blooms into something fragrant and cool.

It’s the perfect counterpoint to rich lamb kebabs, spicy rice dishes, or really anything that needs a cooling, creamy companion.

Pro Tips

  • Dice cucumbers small and evenly for the best texture in every spoonful
  • Press or mince garlic fresh; jarred won’t give you the same punch
  • Dried mint works better than fresh here, distributing flavor more evenly
  • Let it sit at least 30 minutes (or overnight) before serving for flavors to blend
  • Serve well chilled for maximum refreshment
