45 minImagine a warm, crunchy bread shell oozing with melted cheese and sweet crab meat. That’s every single bite of these little gems.
French bread gets cubed, hollowed out, brushed with butter, and toasted until golden and crisp. Then each cube gets packed with a filling of crab meat, American cheese spread, Worcestershire, lemon pepper, and a touch of mustard. Back in the oven for a few more minutes until everything is bubbly and irresistible.
They’re two-bite appetizers that disappear from the tray faster than you can make them.
Chef Tips
- A sharp paring knife makes hollowing out the bread cubes much easier. Leave about an eighth of an inch on all sides so they hold their shape.
- Don’t rush the first toast. You want the cubes fully crisp before filling, or they’ll go soggy under the weight of the cheese and crab.
- Make these ahead through the first bake, then fill and do the final bake right before serving for maximum crunch.
- A sprinkle of paprika or chopped parsley on top before the second bake gives them a pop of color.
