Chocolate Bundt cake with a hidden cream cheese swirl and semi-sweet chocolate chips baked right in. Starts with a cake mix, so it comes together fast with a from-scratch feel.

The “surprise” is a ribbon of tangy cream cheese hiding inside a chocolate Bundt loaded with melted chocolate chips.

You pour the chocolate batter into the pan, spread the cream cheese mixture on top, and let the oven do its thing. As it bakes, the layers meld into something that looks and tastes way fancier than the effort involved.

Dust it with powdered sugar and serve with whipped cream and fresh raspberries for a dessert that punches well above its weight.

Chef Tips

  • Soften the cream cheese fully before beating. Cold cream cheese leaves lumps that won’t disappear during baking.
  • Fold the chocolate chips into the batter gently so they distribute evenly without sinking to the bottom.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for a full 25 minutes before flipping. Bundt cakes need that time to pull away from the edges cleanly.

Directions

Heat oven to 350℉ (180℃).

Butter and flour a 12-cup Bundt pan.

In a small mixing bowl, using an electric mixer, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth.

Add egg and vanilla; beat until blended and set aside.

Prepare cake mix as directed; fold in chocolate morsels.

Pour chocolate batter into prepared pan; evenly cover with cream cheese mixture.

Bake until a wooden pick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean, 45 to 55 minutes.

Cool on a wire rack for 25 minutes. Remove from pan; cool completely.

Dust with confectioners sugar. Serve with whipped cream and raspberries, if desired.
