Stuffed Date Drops From the '50's

Ingredients

1 pound dates (about 70), pitted
70 Pecan pecan halves (about 3 oz.)
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 each egg
1 1/4 cups flour, all-purpose
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sour cream dairy
Golden frosting
1/2 cup margarine or butter
3 cups powdered sugar sifted
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons water

Directions

Stuff dates with nut halves.

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar.

Beat in egg.

Sift dry ingredients together.

Add alternately with sour cream to creamed mixture.

Stir in dates, gently.

Drop onto greased cookie sheets (1 date per cookie).

Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Golden Frosting:

Lightly brown butter.

Remove from heat and gradually beat in sugar and vanilla.

Slowly add water until of spreading consistency.

Makes about 70 cookies.
