Italian Gocci Di Cioccolata

Ingredients

2 cups flour, all-purpose
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cloves ground
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar granulated
1 each egg
3/4 cup milk

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Sift first 8 dry ingredients together.

Cream shortening, sugar and egg together on medium speed Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk, mixing just until batter is smooth.

Drop dough by rounded spoonful onto greased baking sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees F (180C) for 9-12 minutes, or until set.

Remove to rack, cool completely.

Glaze.

Struffoli (Honey Balls)

As long as I have been making struffoli I always put in one jigger of Burbon or whisky. It gives the dough a nice flavor.
