25 minThese no-bake peanut butter cereal drops are the kind of treat that takes longer to describe than to make. Heat corn syrup and sugar until it bubbles, stir in peanut butter, pour over Special K cereal, and drop onto wax paper. That’s it. Four ingredients, one saucepan, zero baking.
The timing on the syrup matters. You want the sugar fully dissolved and the mixture just starting to bubble before pulling it off the heat. If you cook it too long, the syrup hardens too fast and becomes brittle instead of chewy. If you don’t cook it enough, the clusters won’t hold together.
Stir the peanut butter in off the heat so it melts into the syrup smoothly without scorching. Then pour it over the cereal and work quickly. The mixture sets up fast as it cools, so get it spooned onto the wax paper while it’s still warm and pliable.
Kitchen Tips
- Use creamy peanut butter for a smoother coating; chunky works but makes the drops harder to shape
- Drop them by large spoonfuls as directed. Trying to make them small and neat is a losing battle with a sticky mixture
- If the mixture stiffens before you finish spooning, return it to low heat briefly to re-soften
- Store at room temperature in a single layer. Stacking while warm will glue them together permanently
Variations
- Chocolate drizzle: Melt ¼ cup chocolate chips and drizzle over the cooled clusters for a chocolate-peanut butter combo
- Cornflake swap: Use cornflakes or Rice Krispies instead of Special K for a different crunch
- Butterscotch version: Replace the corn syrup and sugar with butterscotch chips melted on low heat

Combine corn syrup and sugar in a saucepan over low heat.
When the sugar is dissolved and the mixture begins to bubble, remove from heat and stir in the peanut butter.
