50 minThese are the kind of cookies that make people stop mid-conversation and say “wait, there’s a candy bar INSIDE?"
A thick, nutty peanut butter dough gets shaped around miniature Snickers or Mars bars on wooden sticks, then baked until golden and just set.
Crack one open and you get that molten candy center oozing caramel and chocolate through rich, chewy cookie.
Roll them in sprinkles, crushed nuts, or colored sugar before baking for a festive holiday look, or drizzle with melted chocolate after they cool.
Makes 40 cookies, which sounds like a lot until you see how fast they disappear.
Pro Tips
- Chill the dough-wrapped candy bars for 15 minutes before baking so they hold their shape better.
- Make sure the dough fully seals around the candy. Any gaps and you’ll have a caramel eruption on your baking sheet.
- Let them cool on the sheet for a full 5 minutes before moving. The candy center needs time to firm back up.
Ingredients
Directions
For the chocolate bars, you can use 20, 1 x 2 inch size halved.
Beat peanut butter, margarine or butter, and shortening in a large mixing bowl on high speed for 30 seconds.
Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, and baking soda and beat until combined.
Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined.
Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer on medium, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Stir in any remaining flour with a spoon.
Insert a wooden stick into each candy bar piece.
Form about 2 tablespoons dough into a ball shape around each candy bar piece, making sure the candy is completely covered.
If desired, roll ball in decorative candies, nuts, or colored sugar, gently pushing candies or nuts into dough.
Place cookies 2½ inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake in 325℉ (160℃) oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden and set.
Cool on cookie sheet 5 minutes. Remove cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
If desired, drizzle or frost the cookies with melted chocolate or frosting.
