40 minFour ingredients. One pan. Less than 10 minutes in the microwave. Breakfast is served.
A sticky layer of apple pie filling, chopped pecans, and brown sugar goes into the bottom of a baking pan, then refrigerated cinnamon rolls nestle right on top.
A quick spin in the microwave puffs the rolls up light and springy, and when you flip the whole thing onto a plate, you get a gorgeous, gooey, apple-topped masterpiece.
Pour the remaining warm apple filling over the top and try not to eat the whole pan standing at the counter.
Pro Tips
- Invert immediately. Don’t wait. The sugar mixture will harden as it cools and the rolls will stick to the pan instead of releasing cleanly.
- Line with parchment. This is your insurance policy for a clean flip. Waxed paper works too.
- Check at 8 minutes. Microwaves vary wildly in power. The rolls should be light, springy, and no longer doughy in the center.
Variations
- Bake in the oven instead of the microwave for browned, slightly caramelized edges. Try 20 minutes or so.
- Swap pecans for walnuts if that’s what you’ve got on hand.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon to the apple-pecan base for an extra warm, spiced kick.
