Simple curry-spiced yeast bread with garlic and parsley for aromatic flavor that pairs beautifully with Indian curries, soups, or as unique sandwich bread.

40 minThis intriguingly named bread gets its personality from warm curry powder, pungent garlic, and fresh parsley kneaded into a basic yeast dough.
The spices perfume your kitchen as it rises and bakes, creating a round loaf with golden crust and soft interior.
It’s not authentically Indian but rather a fusion creation perfect for mopping up curry sauces, serving alongside soups, or making standout grilled cheese sandwiches.
The “aphrodisiac” name is whimsical marketing, but the aromatic, garlicky bread is genuinely irresistible.
Kitchen Tips
- Warm water temp: Around 110°F activates yeast without killing it; too hot and you start over
- Knead until elastic: Five minutes creates smooth, springy dough that rises properly
- Double in size: Don’t rush the rise; yeast needs time to create that airy texture
- Tap test: Bread is done when bottom sounds hollow when tapped
Variations
- Add cumin seeds or fennel seeds for extra aromatic punch
- Use fresh cilantro instead of parsley for brighter, more herbaceous flavor
- Brush with garlic butter right out of the oven for extra richness
