Flour and Liquid: The 4 cups of flour and 1⅓ cups of liquid (⅔ cup milk + ⅔ cup water) maintain the proper dough consistency for a 2-pound loaf. If the dough seems too sticky or dry during the first kneading cycle, adjust by adding 1 tablespoon of flour or water at a time.

Yeast: The yeast is increased to 2¾ teaspoons to ensure adequate rise for the larger loaf. If using instant yeast, reduce to about 2¼ teaspoons.

Machine Capacity: Confirm your bread machine can handle a 2-pound loaf, as some smaller models are limited to 1.5 pounds.

Directions

  1. Add ingredients to the bread machine pan in the order recommended by your machine’s manufacturer (usually liquids first, then dry ingredients, with yeast last). For most machines:
    • Pour in warm milk and water.
    • Add sugar, salt, and softened or melted butter.
    • Add flour, making a small well in the center.
    • Place yeast in the well, ensuring it doesn’t contact the liquid.
  2. Select the Basic or White Bread cycle, choose a 2-pound loaf size, and select your preferred crust setting (light or medium).
  3. Press “Start” and allow the machine to complete the cycle (typically 3–4 hours).
  4. When finished, remove the bread pan, let the loaf cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
