Bob's Bourbon Chicken
Submitted by Lindsay_06
Grilled bourbon chicken basted with a sticky glaze of bourbon whiskey, dark brown sugar, ketchup, Worcestershire, and garlic. Sweet, smoky, and charred at the edges. Backyard BBQ gold.

40 minFire up the grill and pour yourself a bourbon. You’ll need a cup for the chicken and, well, the rest is between you and the bottle.
This bourbon chicken glaze is sticky, sweet, and deeply savory. Dark brown sugar and ketchup build the sweet base, bourbon brings the heat and oak, and Worcestershire, garlic, lemon juice, and dry mustard round it all out with a tangy kick.
Brush it on, turn the chicken, brush again. Keep basting until those edges go glossy and caramelized.
Pro Tips
- Use a full-flavored bourbon here. The smoky, vanilla notes come through in the glaze, so cheap stuff will taste like cheap stuff.
- Baste in thin coats and build up layers. Thick globs of glaze will burn before they caramelize.
- Keep the grill at medium heat. The sugar in this glaze will char fast over high flames.
- Reserve a small bowl of glaze before you start basting for a clean dipping sauce on the side.
