1 hrsThis old-school beef pinwheel is the kind of recipe grandma kept on a stained index card for good reason.
Seasoned ground beef gets rolled flat, stuffed with tender cabbage and sauteed onions, then spiraled up like a jelly roll and baked until firm and golden.
Slice it crosswise and you get those gorgeous pinwheel rounds that look like you fussed, even though the whole thing comes together in about 20 minutes of hands-on time.
Serve it plain or spoon warmed cream of vegetable soup over the top for a simple, old-fashioned gravy.
Pro Tips
- Make sure the cabbage is well-drained after cooking. Excess moisture will make the roll fall apart when you slice it.
- Rolling the meat between waxed paper keeps it from sticking and makes it easy to get an even thickness.
- Let the pinwheel rest for 5 to 10 minutes after baking so it holds its shape when you cut it.
- For extra flavor, mix a splash of Worcestershire into the cabbage filling too.
