Fudgy Bat Cookies

Fudgy bat cookies turn chocolate wafer cookies into Halloween treats shaped like flying bats with milk chocolate candy melts. A no-bake project for kids and party trays.

30 minA no-bake Halloween craft cookie that uses only two ingredients and a sharp knife to fake what looks like a tray of detailed chocolate bats. The structure is genius in its simplicity: two quartered wafer cookies become two wings. A puddle of melted candy in the middle becomes the body. Cooled and lifted off the wax paper, each bat looks like it just landed.
The serrated knife matters. Round wafer cookies shatter under a smooth blade because of their crisp, snappy texture. A serrated edge with a sawing motion cuts cleanly without splintering, leaving four equal quarter-rounds that look like proper wing-tips.
Children love helping with this one because there is no oven, no measuring, and no mistake bigger than a smudged chocolate body. It works well for Halloween party crafts or for stocking a candy display alongside spider cookies and pumpkin treats.
Assembly Tips
- Cut all the wafer cookies first before melting the candy. The chocolate sets fast once it hits the cookie, so you want every wing in place before the body melts.
- Reheat the candy melts gently if they thicken up. Microwave in 15-second bursts, stirring between, to avoid seizing the chocolate.
- Use a toothpick to push the wings into the puddle as the candy cools. This locks them at the right angle.
- Let the bats cool flat on wax paper at least 20 minutes before lifting, longer in a warm kitchen.
Variations
- Use white candy melts instead for ghost bats, then add tiny chocolate dots for eyes.
- Drizzle the bodies with orange-tinted candy melts for a more festive Halloween color scheme.
- Pipe small fang shapes from white frosting to give the bats vampire teeth.
