Peanut butter banana milkshake with rolled oats blended in for extra body and protein. A filling, creamy shake with honey and vanilla, no ice cream needed.

This milkshake skips the ice cream entirely and still comes out thick and creamy. A ripe banana, peanut butter, and milk do the heavy lifting, while a secret half cup of raw rolled oats blended in adds body, fiber, and a subtle nuttiness that makes every sip more filling.

The oats disappear completely when blended for a full minute. They thicken the shake naturally the way ice cream normally would, giving it that rich, spoonable consistency without the added sugar and fat. Use ripe bananas with plenty of brown spots for the sweetest, most banana-forward flavor. The honey and vanilla round things out, but a good ripe banana barely needs them.

Blend the base ingredients first until smooth, then add the ice cubes and hit it on high for another minute. The ice makes it frothy and cold. Drink it right away while it’s still thick and frosty.

Kitchen Tips

  • Freeze banana chunks ahead of time for an even thicker, colder shake without watering it down with extra ice
  • Use old-fashioned rolled oats, not instant. Instant oats can make the texture gummy
  • A powerful blender works best here. A weak blender may leave oat bits behind
  • This thickens as it sits, so drink it soon after blending

Variations

  • Add a tablespoon of cocoa powder for a chocolate peanut butter banana shake
  • Use almond butter and almond milk for a dairy-free version
  • Toss in a handful of spinach for a green smoothie twist. You won’t taste it behind the peanut butter
