Kraut Burgers

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef, lean
1 large onion finely chopped
3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
2 each bread dough loaves, frozen
1 x cabbage head shredded
1 x salt to taste
1 x black pepper to taste

Directions

Melt Shortening in skillet.

Add beef, cabbage and onion.

Cook until cabbage is nearly done.

Do not brown. Drain, salt and pepper to taste.

Roll bread dough, which has risen once to 1/4-inch thick.

Cut in 5 to 6-inch squares.

Place 2 to 3 heaping T of mixture on each square; bring corners together and pinch sides shut.

Let rise 20 minutes.

Bake at 375F for about 20 minutes or until brown.

Brush tops with melted butter as the dough cools.

Ribbon Loaf

We have made this recipe over the years from memory, it originialy was in a Womans Day or Family Circle back in the mid 70's. It is just great, easy and highly recomend it to everyone. However I will say that it is best if let set for 6-8 hours or overnight, it marries and blends and softens the crackers. When sliced it looks like a giant petifore.
