Sweet Potatoes vs. Potatoes
by Linda Litman
| Let your taste buds decide which to serve as a side dish. The sweet potato has a sweeter flavour and slightly more calories than your standard potato. But the sweet potato trumps it's counterpart by delivering almost twice the filling fiber and a healthy does of beta-carotene, which helps boost your immune system and helps build bones. Both vegetables provide potatssium which is important for muscle function as well as other vitamins and minerals and are naturally low in fat.
Try to leave the skin on a standard white potato as that's where the bulk of it's fiber is located.
